Holiday Stories

New Year's Day

January 1 marks the start of the Gregorian calendar year. In modern China it is a statutory holiday, often used for short trips, public countdowns and gatherings with family or friends.

Spring Festival (Chinese New Year)

The Spring Festival is China's most important traditional holiday and marks the start of the lunar new year. Families gather for reunion dinners, exchange red envelopes and decorate homes with red couplets.

Labour Day

International Labour Day on May 1 recognizes workers and the labor movement. In China it anchors a major travel period whose exact days off may be extended through weekend adjustments.

Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu)

National Day on October 1 marks the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. It begins a seven-day Golden Week and one of the busiest domestic travel periods of the year. Flag-raising ceremonies and public floral displays are common celebrations.
